On May 18, the U Schoolers took our first ever field trip. So exciting! In our neighborhood, we have an incredible resource: the Scrap Box. At the Scrap Box, there are endless opportunities to create using materials that used to go to the dump, but now are reused. The goal was to take what we know about a living creature and, like a scientist, create a model of it.

Our instructor for the day was Charlie! Charlie is a teacher at the U School, and he also leads group workshops at the Scrap Box. SO lucky for us: Charlie was our guide! First, he offered an informative description about the work of the Scrap Box, and then we went to the workshop room and made our models. It was amazing to see how engrossed the U Schoolers were in creating their creatures. They went at it for a good 45 minutes! After that, Charlie took us to the bulk room where U Schoolers were able to fill a brown paper bag with any items that would fit in them so they could continue to create at home.
