We will be closed in observance of the Labor Day Holiday: Friday, August 29 through Monday, September 1.
Getting Ready for School!
As the summer starts to wind down, The Scrap Box has been busy with lots of teachers shopping for their fall classes, and the last of the summer field trips and all the extra kids shopping in the store. We love the busyness and enthusiasm of kids and adults alike. Soon – after Labor Day – things will quiet down and we’ll all be able to catch our breaths.
Early fall is a good time to do some leisurely shopping, without the crowds, or to schedule a workshop when the calendar is nearly clear. At any rate, don’t stay away too long!
Opening Day Program for Teachers:
AAPS Opening Day for Staff:
On Tuesday, August 26 the entire staff for the Ann Arbor Public Schools will gather at Pioneer High for an orientation preceeded by a half-hour reception with vendors displaying their services. We will be there too. We’ll have a drawing for a Scrap Box gift certificate that you’ll want to sign up for. Look for us (last year we were near the entrance, by the donuts) and say hello.
Make Health Fest:
We attended the “We Make Health Fest” at the University of Michigan Palmer Room on Saturday, August 16th from 10:00 am to 2pm.

The “We Make Health Fest” was a one day participatory event blending the “Maker” ethic with a range of professional interests from across the University. Representatives from Public Health, Information Science,
We offered a “Cardboard Challenge” for kids event making wearable mock-ups of creatures, devices or conceptual circuitry as it applies to “patient-centered” design!
Nerdy Derby Cars Online:
We attended Maker Faire on both July 26th & 27th in Dearborn helping our friends at maker works Ann Arbor with their annual “Nerdy Derby”.
The event was a part of the general admission to the Faire. Participants registered under the tent, got their materials, and went to work at the creation tables!
All together over 800 cars were produced over the two days! The gallery link below offers a peek at the stunning variety of inventiveness in decorating small wooden cars!
