New Webmaster: bowling ball turtle

We are delighted to welcome Michael to our Scrap Box family. He will continue to monitor and update our website, write our regular blog to keep you up to date on what’s new, contribute to Facebook, and he sincerely welcomes your input!

If you have pictures of things you have made and/or stories about using our materials, you can e-mail him at:

Monetary Donations: pilgrim cat

It’s that time of year that we appeal to our supporters to consider financially helping The Scrap Box to continue its important work. In order to keep our costs for materials as low as possible, we need additional monetary support. This year a generous donor has agreed to match 1:1 when you donate at least $100, thus doubling the value of your gift.

You can donate online or send a check to us at:

581 State Circle, Ann Arbor, MI 48108.

This is also a good time to consider taking out a membership or renewing a current one. It is still only $25 and gives you $1 off each bag you purchase and gives you access to our members’ room with a die cutter and other nifty tools.

We need to raise about $30,000 a year in grants and donations to meet our annual budget. Can we count on your support?

New Stuff: hanging baubles

Our huge donation from our favorite whole seller continues as they work to downsize their warehouse. We have gotten at least 6 van loads of boxes and bins full of unique items. Just sorting out and storing all this stuff has been overwhelming, but fun as well. There have been a lot of “wow” moments!

Included in the latest loads are many varieties of Christmas balls, lots of sparkly balls, beads, buttons, fruit, bells, plastic snowflakes, stars, plastic teardrops, dice, and fancy dominoes.

The many balls and beads can be turned into colorful, easy-to-construct garlands – good replacements for the usual popcorn and cranberry project. Beads can be strung on pipe cleaners to make simple ornaments or gift package embellishments. The snowflakes have a hole for easy stringing, or you can glue them on handmade cards. The large balls made from heavy twine look great hanging from the ceiling with nice ribbon. Add some mistletoe and make a kissing ball. The balls made from grape vines would look great painted or with thin ribbons intertwined through them.

Come on in and let your imagination go wild!

And please share some of your ideas with us.

Gift Certificates: glass jewels

Scrap Box materials make great gifts for young children (ages 3 and up). Or you could assemble your own assortment of interesting stuff using one of our ice cream buckets or styrofoam coolers. Include a package of Scrap Box double stickies and avoid the need for glue. We also have gift certificates in any amount you choose. These are perfect for that special teacher or artist who would enjoy selecting his or her own supplies. The gift certificates can even be ordered over the phone using your credit card (MC, Visa, or Discover). We can mail it out for you and send you the receipt.
